Their passion · their vision · their wines

Marie and Sylvie Courselle

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”

Marcel Proust

The Courselle sisters

Who are Marie and Sylvie?

Together, they are the beating heart of Thieuley today. Marie, rooted in the land, and Sylvie, the adventurer, embody the joie de vivre of the Entre-Deux-Mers, which they love to share. Both trained as agricultural engineers and oenologists, and passionate about nature, travel and wine, these two winegrowers produce a range that runs from the freshest wines to the great classics. With generosity and commitment, in the spirit of our beautiful countryside, they reinterpret traditions and landscapes, experimenting with small cuvées as well as new products and new experiences…
THE COUNTRY SPIRIT of Marie and Sylvie Courselle

The country spirit of Marie and Sylvie Courselle

Blandine Giambiasi knows how to describe us, how to write us… and we wanted to share her words with you to express the rural spirit that drives us. (Extract from Country Journal no. 4)
“The country spirit is rooted in our history. And in our countryside, diversity. Before us, our grandfather and his cows. The farm. Cereals, meadows, pastures and hay. Today, mixed farming feels like an adventure to us, but it is really a reconquest. The search for a necessary balance in our activities. Bringing other crops and other produce back to our farmland. In the way we see our land and our Entre-Deux-Mers, we are weaving a thread of our family culture. Everything is here, and we know how lucky we are. These valleys. These old trees. Paths and streams. A barn, a low stone wall. And some serious know-how. A sense of hospitality, sharing our table. It is in this attention to the landscape, to our immediate surroundings, to every question of heritage and culture around us, that we find joy every morning. Country girls – that is what we are. Drawing our energy and inspiration from the diversity of plants, places and encounters, from the changing seasons, from uncertainty and from the call to adapt, as ‘our times’ demand. Creating cuvées, imagining other wines – even wines that aren’t wines – opening up to other produce of the land (oils, vinegars, honey) and keeping our doors open to visitors, artists and celebrations: that is what our beautiful rural life is all about.”
a story of passing things on

A family project

From our father we learned the technique – the craft, as they say. We watched him build, construct, succeed, plant, replant and top-graft. As children, we took part in the daily tasks in the vineyard and the winery. From our mother we learned the art of sharing and a love of entertaining. From both of them, we learned to enjoy the good things in life.

Mood

Drawing the best from every moment and every encounter – a state of mind that guides our choices and our wines.

Conviviality

Wines in tune with what we champion every day: the art of sharing, entertaining and living together.

Inspiration & Travel

Marie and Sylvie both trained as agricultural engineers (at the Purpan engineering school) and as oenologists. They rounded off their training with numerous internships and harvests abroad (Spain, California, Australia, Italy) and in other French wine regions (Burgundy, Languedoc, Châteauneuf-du-Pape). Always on the lookout for new experiences, they continue to travel, visit and draw inspiration from passionate men and women.

Passions

They both describe themselves as winegrowers and epicureans. Marie loves cooking, walking, yoga and botany (the floral waters are her doing!). Sylvie has loved sport since childhood. An energetic all-rounder with an adventurous streak, she treated herself to a climb of Mont Blanc for her 40th birthday. Both are deeply attached to their land, but dream of mountain getaways (summer and winter alike) whenever their schedule allows.

Sauvage
Hybrid grape varietie Vines & terroir
Sauvage

Sauvage

Sauvage is a cuvée made from our resistant grape varieties, also known as hybrid varieties. These are born from crossing old, disease-resistant varieties with modern ones chosen for their organoleptic qualities.

We are experimenting with these varieties to move our techniques and practices forward, and the first results are already clear: fewer interventions in the vineyard, less soil compaction, a smaller carbon footprint…

Bouteille Sauvage blanc
Sauvage white

Sauvage white

Sauvignac – a Sauvignon x Riesling cross and a mildew-resistant vine – is the only grape in this cuvée. Long ageing on the lees in concrete vats gives this dry white mineral, then floral, notes.

Sauvage red

Sauvage red

We chose Cabernet Cortis, a variety created in 1982 that surprises with its ambivalence. A simple vinification in concrete vats lets this grape express its full aromatic potential.

Tendre SAUVAGE

Half juice, half wine, Tendre Sauvage is one of those soft, fresh and flavoursome drinks. With an alcohol content of 8–9% and a touch of sweetness for indulgence, its aromatics are beautiful and intense, with notes of elderflower, green stems, rose and lychee.

Pétille

Pétille

A new kind of bubbles for a new kind of red. Made using the traditional method, this 100% Merlot sparkling wine is something of a UFO: a red crémant, a “Noir de Noir”.
